During this same period, the path home from school I walked with my younger sister passed under a train bridge whose noise frightened her - especially when I held her there "to cure her of her fear" as she screamed and cried. I was 'helping' her. Power. Control. No conscience. No heroism.
My earliest acts as an evolving male citizen of a democracy displayed lots of raw human behavior but very little civility.
Now, I get to witness entire legislatures treat large groups of citizens who are politically identifiable as either only partially enfranchised or as feminine, the same way as a 7-year old might; with power, with control, with skewed conscience and, civilly, without civility.
