The man lies. He has been proven to be a cheat. And if he knows what he is saying in his public pronouncements, he is a xenophobic, homophobic, misogynist, Islamophobic, sexist, racist, oligarch. If he doesn't know what he's saying, he's the most dangerous coiffed, coutured animal alive. He admits to all of the above from time to time. And yet people find him worthy of pursuit as leader of this country.

That is sad; but it is also frightening. He doesn't qualify to lead a cub scout pack! Why would anyone chose him to lead this country?

My new attitude is about the electorate. It is sad, of course, that he might be elected. But the darker envelope holding that sadness is the fear that there might be enough people in this country who would let him lead them anywhere. And another fear is that if he is elected, people around the world will, knowing I am an American, wonder about my trustworthiness, at my reason, my sanity. I will be fearful for my living (how), for my life (whether), and ashamed of my citizenship.

Even as a disadvantaged minority citizen, though I've been depressed, though I've been fearful, because I believed in the basic honesty and humanity of most of my fellow citizens I was never ashamed to be identified as a citizen.
