You should, instead, be doing NOW, some of the things you say you're going to do if elected. Take the chance that voters want what you will give them. Confront bankers. Confront insurers. Confront gun users. Confront misguided citizens! Confront Courts and school administrations using skewed… logic (it's not justice). Understand that if the public DO vote for you overwhelmingly, you AND the Republican party will have to pay some sort of attention. You need to make the news media, other politicians, and yes, comics as well as newscasters (even the nasty ones) talk about you! It's up to you to make it worth listening to (that doesn't mean it has to be… whatever. Look at Trump).
Think about it.
The Republicans didn't do anything for the country in the last eight years except stop or stall almost every progressive program, and therefore almost any positive change that has been proposed. That's not leadership; that's inadequacy. They weren't resolving problems; they were restricting process - that means they weren't even trying! They still aren't. Look at how they're not handling the Supreme Court nomination. They're not even being active about their obstruction. They're hiding behind process and position and hoping no one will notice… And they're right! No one has made a joke about how wrong/mean/stupid/undemocratic/… whatever they're (not) doing is. If several of you do, no matter how outrageous the statement is), it would be reported, and critiqued, and laughed about, and HEARD. Think about it!
