What do they think of a man who entertains by lying, by antagonizing, by demeaning, by bullying, by cheating, by fomenting fear, derision, confusion, and anger. Of course he wins votes; he's an entertainer. But do these Party men, who are set on winning, understand what these voters are finding appealing? Are voters approving of his promises or of his performance? When the election is over and they realize that he is no longer merely the performer on the stage, and that he won't go away, when they realize that because they have approved of his having the power, he can use that power to change the stage, to eliminate the stage, to decide who can participate in the performance, to determine the price of the performance, to decide who joins the act and what and how the troupe performs to support him! They will have given him the keys to and the official signature on the mortgage of the theater. He already manages the promotion.
And he is an impresario… and who knows what THAT means!
